NHS services using Flow to treat depression

The NHS use Flow to treat depression

The NHS has used Flow in 10 NHS services across Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, West London, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber, Norfolk and Suffolk and Practitioner Health.

They also offer the treatment to their own doctors - clinicians suffering from depression can access Flow through NHS Practitioner Health (if they live in England and Scotland).

"I’ve seen people who haven’t responded to anything else, no longer struggle with depression.”
Dr Mark McConnochie
NHS Consultant Psychiatrist

The NHS use Flow to treat depression

Every NHS service using Flow has independently published their findings that demonstrate Flow is safe and effective to use. You can read more about these studies below.

"Results support the use of Flow"

NHS Community Mental Health teams (CMHT) have been using Flow to support people in their mental health recovery.

“It is important to offer patients an evidenced-backed alternative to existing depression treatments (antidepressant medication and psychotherapies). The results support the use of Flow as a treatment option for CMHT patients with symptoms of depression.”

"Improvements in emotional well-being"

In March 2023 Flow was successfully offered to patients as an alternative to antidepressants or therapy at select GP practices in Northamptonshire.

Doctor Azhar Zafar, the NHS GP leading the trial said: “Flow has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our patients, who have reported improvements in their emotional well-being, increased energy levels, and overall functioning."

"Helps participants deal with challenging situations"

Dr Carol Abraham, Specialty Doctor from NHFT Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service said:

“We are pleased to be able to offer tDCS as part of a range of therapies as reviewed by NICE for the treatment of depression, especially as sometimes mothers prefer not to take medication if they are breastfeeding.”
